VOCAL MUSIC PROGRAM

Monique Thorngren

Inspiring students to sing and feel confident about who they are, while learning the universal language of music is the key to Kenter Canyon's vocal music program. Kenter students are actively involved in practicing their vocal music skills through performing, playing singing games, learning folk dances and songs from around the world, practicing rhythm and pitched percussion instruments, listening to the music of great composers, and learning to read and write music. Based on the California State Standards for music, students improve their skills each year and become more proficient. Students love to perform and I will work with the classroom teachers to prepare music programs for holidays and culmination.

Under my direction, classes in grades 1-5 enjoy vocal music instruction for 30 minutes per week and experiences a wide variety of music. Multicultural, classical, American folk music, jazz and pop, all enhance student's interests and knowledge of the wonderful world of music.

I am so happy to be here at Kenter Canyon where parents, community, administration and staff recognize the important role that music plays in educating students. My contribution to Kenter students' success and musical progress is a great privilege.

Thank You for this opportunity to educate your talented students.
