About the Science Program
Kenter Canyon Elementary offers all of its students a great opportunity to explore their interest in science through a hands-on approach to learning. All grade levels, Kindergarten through Fifth Grade, are part of the science enrichment program. Each class attends the science lab on a weekly basis.
In the science lab, students perform experiments, learn how to use scientific tools, and participate in a variety of activities under the supervision of a lab instructor and their teacher. The experiments and activities serve to enhance students’ knowledge of science. The material covered incorporates information that the children have studied in their classes. The science program ranges from the fields of earth science to life and physical science. Moreover, the course provides a chance for students to develop a sense of scientific inquiry, and at the very least an appreciation for the physical laws that govern our world.
Among the goals of the science enrichment course include an interactive approach to learning, as “children learn best by doing,” as well as a collaborative approach to learning, where students often work in teams when engaging in the activities. Worthy of mention is the annual Science Fair at Kenter Canyon Elementary in which students from all grade levels participate. This occasion serves as an opportunity for the curious minds of Kenter Canyon to showcase their knowledge and their investigative skills as young, aspiring scientists.
