When & Where?
Saturday, September 26, 2009, from 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Palisades Charter High School. The school is located at 15777 Bowdoin Street (Sunset at Temescal Canyon) in Pacific Palisades, CA 90272. The sale will take place in the faculty parking lot. Enter the faculty lot from Bowdoin and go to the right.
Who Can Sell at the Yard Sale?
We ask that only Kenter/PCHS school families and friends sell at the Yard Sale. Get the kids involved! They can sell old items and use the CA$H to get new ones! Partner with others to share one or more spaces — especially if you have only a few items to sell, can stay only part of the time, or just to make selling more fun! The Yard Sale is being advertised in local publications like the Brentwood News, Los Angeles Times, and on Craig’s List. Last year we had 26 families selling, and we had over 600 attendees. This year will be the best sale ever!!!
Do I need to register to sell?
No. Simply show up early the day of the event (between 6:00 and 7:30 a.m.) to claim your space. Bring a chair and a blanket and/or sell straight out of your car — it’s that easy! Food will be available for sale.
Who Can Buy or Attend?
Anyone can attend for free to shop, recycle old batteries and electronics, and have a blast! Tell your friends, family, and the public!
Why?
Together we can have fun and…1) raise much-needed funds for our schools; 2) do some fall cleaning and make some cash; 3) share a morning coffee and trade stories; and 4) teach kids the importance of re-use/recycle, motivate them to clean out their rooms, and help them to use their math and negotiating skills to buy and sell items.
The harsh reality is that LAUSD is cutting millions of $s in 2009/2010, and our schools need everyone’s help to keep and improve the level of enrichment, aides, and activities that they provide. Sellers are asked, but are not required, to proceeds to the schools. All donations are tax-deductible and go to our non-profit Kenter Parent Support Group (PSG) and PCHS to benefit school programs. The more people join, the more funds we raise!
What?
This event is like having a yard sale at your home, except…multi-family yard sales draw larger crowds, we do the advertising, and it’s more fun to be with other families! Yes, you have to bring your items a little further, but you don’t have to share your home address and phone number with the general public. Participants just show up the date of the sale and sell out of their cars or from parking spaces — it’s “Show and Sell.” Sellers handle their own set-up, pricing, sales, and clean-up. Money made from the sales belongs to the sellers, but we hope you will consider donating some of your profits (suggested 50 – 100%).
What friends are saying…
” From a dad with lots of clutter: “My garage is so full we can’t even park the cars anymore…. And I love the fact that I can load up my car and just back it in to a spot. I may need to get a roof rack, though.”
From a trying-to-be-‘green’ mom: “What a great opportunity to recycle — or is it re-use? — old sports equipment and toys that could be used by someone else!"
From a parent who is into philanthropy: “I love the fact that I can get rid of stuff I no longer need — and donate all of the proceeds to the school. It teaches my kids about supporting their school and giving…if they don’t use all their earnings to buy more treasures.”
Bonus! An electronic waste truck will be at the front circle, accepting old batteries, computers, and other electronics. See you again in my next life! – Mr. Robot
