As an Affiliated Charter School, Kenter Canyon is in the forefront of innovative public school governance.
Charter status gives Kenter Canyon School the authorization to establish our own objectives as a school community, independent of many of the restrictions of other District schools. Such recommendations are in alignment with the school's LAUSD Board of Education approved Charter petition, adhere to LAUSD Board of Education policies, and support the vision and mission of the school and District. The Kenter Governance Council is the school's decision-making body in the areas of operational, curriculum related, budgetary and other policy decisions for our school. The Governance Council consists of the Principal, seven teachers, one non-teaching employee, seven parents of students attending Kenter and one community member. The Governance Council is an advisory council. The governing board of the school is the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education as required by State Law. Goverance Council Representatives have overlapping, two-year terms and are elected by their peers. Elections for Governing Board positions are held in June.
