The morning drop-off at Kenter is a convenience for both parents and the neighborhood, to alleviate lack of parking spaces and traffic on the streets. We need parents to volunteer at the drop-off locations (traffic duty) on designated weeks (by grade and classroom) throughout the year. Each class is responsible for manning one gate/location approximately once a month, 2 parents per day. Please see click the "Read More" button or view the attached sheet for important details on traffic duty. Here is the link for the 2011-2012 Traffic Schedule, and keep your eyes open for emails from the designated Traffic Room Parent for your child's classroom requesting volunteers.
DROP-OFF PROCEDURES
Children in grades 1 - 5 may be dropped off at one of three locations between 7:50 and 8:10 a.m. every school day. (Kindergarteners must be walked to their classrooms by an adult.) This is a "drive-thru" drop-off, organized and staffed by parent volunteers from each classroom. After drop-off, students go to the south playground where supervision is provided until the bell rings. Students may not go to their classrooms or to the North Playground because there is no supervision in those areas.
South Gate
1. Driving north on Kenter, turn left onto Homewood and drop off on north side of the street, just outside the entrance to the play yard. Drive to the front of drop off area; wait for a parent volunteer to come to the car.
2. The volunteer will open the door, assist with backpack(s), and help your student out of the car; do not get out of your car.
3. After drop off, go south on Homewood to exit the area.
Safety considerations:
- Obey stop signs both on Kenter Ave and Homewood Rd.
- Do not drop off on the south side of the street.
- Drive slowly and watch for passing drivers and foot traffic in this area.
On rainy days, this gate is closed - use the front of school drop off instead.
Front of School
1. Driving north on Kenter, turn left into the front parking lot.
2. Continue to the far end of the drive-through area where the volunteers are located.
3. The volunteer will open the door, assist with backpack(s), and help your student out of the car;
do not get out of your car.
Safety considerations:
- Be careful when passing the handicapped parking spots to the right of the parking lot entry.
- Obey the stop sign at the end of the drive-through.
- Drive slowly and watch for passing drivers and foot traffic in this area.
All parent volunteers will strictly enforce the above safety rules. The parent volunteers who assist the morning drop-off are not responsible for any injuries caused to you or your child/ren during the drop off. Each parent driver has the ultimate and primary responsibility to ensure that your child/ren is/are dropped off in a safe manner.
If you do not agree with this statement, please do not use any of the drop-off areas.
