KENTER CANYON SOCCER TEAM WINS CHAMPIONSHIP

Kenter's Grades 2 and 3 Soccer Team won each of their playoff games and earned the Championship trophy.  Coach Tony and the team will be recognized at our Monday morning assembly.  Congratulations to our Champion Coyotes! 

STAR BASKETBALL TEAM TRYOUTS - MARCH 11 and 12

Tryouts are scheduled immediately after-school on March 11 and 12 for the Grades 2 & 3 Team followed by the Grades 4 & 5 teams.  Students will tryout on one of these days only; however, there is no make-up days.  The team rosters will be posted at 3:00 p.m. on March 15 on the STAR Bulletin Board.  Flyers were distributed with additional information this past Friday, March 5.

COMPLETE AND RETURN YOUR SCHOOL EXPERIENCE SURVEYS

LAUSD students, parents, and staff are asked to participate in the School Experience Survey.  Survey results will be included on the 2009-10 School Report Card for Kenter Canyon.  The survey asks respondents think about their school in the areas of 1.) Environment, health, and safety; 2) the connection you ahve to the schhol, 3.) opportunity to learn and participate.  The surveys were provided in Friday Folders.  In order to be recorded, they must be returned to Kenter Canyon no later than March 25, 2010.  If you have any questions, contact your local district or the School Report Card Office at reportcard@lausd.net, (213) 241-5600, or http://reportcard.lausd.net.

SPRING PORTRAITS ARE COMING MARCH 10

Spring Portraits are available on March 10.  Kenter students will have their portraits taken on that day.  The proofs will be sent home a few days afterwards in order for parents to decide if they want to purchase them ornot.  Various backgrounds are available for the Spring Portraits.  Additional information will be sent home in Friday Folders prior to March 10.

"SAFARI" TALENT SHOW - MARCH 12 and 13

Tickets for the Talent Show will be sold in the cafeteria area beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 8.  The tickets are $15 each and $25 for reserved seats.   There is a four-ticket limit.   Talent Show participants will have the opportunity to purchase tickets in advance. 

TAIKO JAPANESE CUISINE "NIGHT OUT" FOR KENTER SCHOOL

Taiko Japanese restaurant in the Brentwood Gardens at 11577 San Vicente Blvd, #302, LA, CA 90049 is sponsoring Kenter Night Out.  Taiko will donate 15% of the proceeds from customers who bring in a Kenter Night Out flyer back to our school.  The Night Out hours are 5:00 - 9:30 p.m. on the following dates:    March 2 - Kindergarten Night Out;  March 3 - Grade 1 Night Out;  March 9 - Grade 2 Night Out; March 10-Grade 3 Night Out; March 16-Grade 4 Night Out;  March 17-Grade 5 Night Out.   The flyers may be shared with family, neighbors, co-workers, and friends.  Additional flyers are available in the Main Office.   Don't forget to take a flyer though or we won't get credit for your purchase. 

FAMILY FESTIVAL PLANNING COMMITTEE MEETING - MARCH 9

A meeting to begin planning the 2010 Family Festival (scheduled for June 13) will be March 9 in Room 6 at 8:15 a.m.  This event takes lots of volunteers, but we need parents to help plan the event as well.  Please attend and consider taking on a role in making this year'sFamily Festival the best ever.

2010 ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS ARE NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART & NUTRITION AWARENESS DAY - MONDAY, MARCH 15

'Kenter's Nutrition & Health Committee has planned various activities for Nutrition Awareness Day and Jump Rope for Heart.  Information will be this week regarding these items. 

ORDER YOUR KENTER 2010 YEARBOOK NOW

SCIENCE NIGHT - WEDNESDAY, MARCH 24

Registration forms for Science night were sent hom in Friday Folders on February 19.  The forms are due back no later than March 8.   Science Night Workshops are scheduled for March 24 from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p..  Students will need to register for specific workshops on the registration forms.  Science workshops include:   Ms. Romero, Kenter's Science Lab teacher, and Mojgy Kashani, Parent Volunteer, are working to ensure another exciting Science Night.  Contact Mojgy if you have questions. 

SCHOOL PERFORMANCE SURVEYS COMING HOME IN FRIDAY FOLDERS ON MARCH 5

The School Experience Survey is a tool used to assess the overall learning climate in LAUSD schools. Given annually to students, school staff, and parents, the survey focuses on opportunities for students and staff to learn, school cleanliness and safety, and parent involvement.    These surveys will be sent home to parents in the March 5 Friday Folder.  
 Elementary schools will be surveying students in grades three and above and all teachers.  We ask that the students return completed surveys to the school before March 26.  The survey results are used to prepare the Annual School Report Card distributed to you in January.  The surveys can also be left in the Main Office.

PARENT EDUCATION SEMINAR - MARCH 18

The March Parent Education Seminar is scheduled for Thursday, March 18 in Room 6 at 8:30 a.m.  The topic is "Parenting Without Power Struggling."  The guest presenter is Suan Stiffelman, author of Raising, Joyful, Resilient Kids Whilte Saying Cool, and other books. 

STOP THE VIOLENCE TRAINING

"Stop the Violence" training is scheduled for parents on Satruday, March 27, 2010 from 9:00 - 2:00 p.m.  at the Edward Roybal Learning Center, 1200 W. KENTER ALUMNS SEEKING SUPPORT FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT

Sean Barnett and Spencer Willison,  former Kenter students, are collecting new/used DVDs and books for the Ocean Park Community Center (OPCC).  OPCC is a network of shelters and services in Santa Monica for low-income and homeless youth, adults, and teens.   When you are cleaning out your kids' movies and book shelves, please consider donating them to these boys.  OPCC is in need of movies rated G, PG, PG13 and books for infants (picture), children, and teens.   Call Sean at 310.472.0334 or drop them off at 717 Hanley Avenue if you have items that suppor their community service project. 

GRADE 4 AND 5 MATH FIELD DAY SCHEDULED

To encourage and motivate students to excel in Math, a Math Field Day is scheduled for Tuesday, April 20, 2010 in the School Auditorium.  This is Kenter's version of a mini-decathlon but for math only.  Students will be assigned to teams that compete with one another to see which team earns the highest score on a math quiz.  Practice packets have been prepared for students and will soon be distributed. 

FAMILY HEALTH WORKSHOP

A "Family Health Workshop" is scheduled for March 20, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the LAUSD Parent/Community Services Branch, 1360 Temple Street,  LA, CA  90026.  Fax the following information to 213.481.3392 if you are interested in participating:  1.) WEEKEND WORK DAY - SATURDAY, APRIL 10     9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Weekend Work Day is an opporutnity for Kenter families and alumni to complete various "clean up" task. This year's projects will include cleaning window seals, windows, doors, ceilings of arcade, staff lounge, gardens, etc.   Traditionally, this is a great way for Revere and Pali High students who previously attended Kenter to earn their required community service hours.   Families will be encouraged to bring their own cleaning supplies, brooms, garden tools, etc.
